With reference to your letter No. 16299/1919, dated 18th March, 1919, I am commanded by the Army Council to inform you that it is anticipated that by the end of the present year accommodation may be required at HONG KONG for some 40 50 married Officers and their families.
It is not possible to be more precise as regards the numbers ag some units have a larger proportion of married officers than others, but the information received by the Council indicates that the shortage of accommodation for such Officers is likely to be acute.
Under the circumstances the Council welcomes the proposal of Lord Milner to provide new housing for the accommodation of Europeans in HONG KONG, and would be glad to be informed of the ultimate decision arrived at.
